Walmart Unveils Cutting-Edge GenAI Search and Social Shopping Experience at CES 2024

Walmart kicked off 2024 with some major tech advancements.  At January's CES event, Walmart showcased several new and expanded features, including cutting-edge GenAI search and a social shopping experience.GenAI-Powered.

GenAI-Powered Search Experience

Walmart is leveraging the power of GenAI to deliver a deeper search experience for its customers. This feature, currently live on iOS for users with the latest app version (23.47 and above) and logged into their Walmart accounts, aims to streamline the shopping process. Whether users seek faster delivery or a quicker way to find specific items, GenAI is poised to reduce time spent scrolling, tapping, and searching.

The GenAI-powered search enables customers to search by specific use cases. For instance, a search for "football watch party" generates comprehensive and relevant results, eliminating the need for multiple searches. The technology takes into account various factors such as location, search history, and other contextual information to provide refined and personalized results. Leveraging Walmart proprietary data, technology, and advanced language models, including those from Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, GenAI search aims to deliver a curated list of the best-matched items for shoppers.

Shop with Friends

Building on its investments in augmented reality (AR) technology, Walmart introduced "Shop with Friends," a social commerce platform designed to make shopping a collaborative and engaging experience. Walmart's new AR feature integrates seamlessly with its Virtual Try-on technology, providing users with an interactive way to share and receive feedback on their picks.

Shop with Friends combines augmented reality virtual try-on, generative AI, and commerce API to allow users to mix and match apparel items, creating virtual outfits on a model with similar sizing and shape. Users can invite friends through popular mobile sharing applications, and each invited user can interact by "hearting" looks. 

Walmart is set to continue leading the way in retail technology, offering customers cutting-edge solutions that combine convenience, personalization, and social engagement.
